Excursion details
This hike does not involve the use of 4x4 buses. The meeting point is at Piano Provenzana (1,800 m a.s.l.), on the north side of Mount Etna in the municipality of Linguaglossa. The itinerary develops along the site of the last lateral eruption on Etna’s northern flank, which in 2002 destroyed the Piano Provenzana tourist resort during the famous “perfect eruption.”
Who can participate?
This is one of the most fascinating itineraries at mid-altitudes, reaching a maximum elevation of approximately 2,100 m.
- Strictly prohibited for individuals with heart conditions, hypertension, asthma, or vertigo.
- Also suitable for families with children, subject to prior agreement with the guide.
- Layered clothing suitable for high altitude
- Trekking or trail running shoes, preferably high-cut

- Meeting: 10 AM Piano Provenzana – Etna Nord (departure around 10:30 AM)
- Difficulty: moderate/easy
- Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours
- Distance: approx. 6 km
- Elevation gain: +300 m (on volcanic terrain, sand, and lava)
